Bathroom Tray

Many years ago I purchased this metal bathroom tray. Over the years it has become a bit tarnished and worn on the flat surface. I do not have the room on my guest counter for a large square tray so I though I might just give this one a little up date.

You can see the bottom is worn and a little rusty.

In my house in Indiana I had a half bath that I wallpapered with a maroon brick paper half way up the wall and then used a floral border on top of it. The half bath in Virginia I painted the walls gold and used the maroon floral pictures, and maroon and gold rug from the Indiana bathroom. Now in Texas I am using the same pictures and rug in my guest bedroom's bath. All I need to add was a shower curtain.

I found the perfect shower curtain on-line that was called the "Gigi Maroon" curtain and it was literally calling my name. I bought some gold guest towels to bring out the gold in the rug and pictures and wanted to use the old metal tray but it was really showing some major wear and tear.

I love this shower curtain! Yes it is a bit girlie, but it works so well with the accessories.
I went to the attic and found a roll of the border I used in the house in Indiana and decided it would look great on my old bathroom tray. Cutting it to the right size was going to be a bit of a challenge.  I unrolled the border print side down and sat the tray on the border. I made an outline of the outside of the tray.

I took a pencil and ran it around the outside of the tray onto the back of the paper.

I cut this template out to get it to a more workable size.
I cut out the border piece and then laid it on the inside of the tray print side down. I pushed the border down into the curved edges and took the pencil and outlined the inside of the tray on the paper. I then cut out the new outline.

I put the cutout onto the tray, the scissors are holding it in place, pushed it into the curves and ran a pencil around it.

The border is prepasted, so I thought why not wet it and see if it sticks. I ran some water on it and let it sit for a few minutes. I then put it on the tray and rubbed it with a dry cloth. It stuck and looked great.

Finished product!

Love It! The best part was it cost me absolutely nothing!
